Because I work exclusively on location, in a variety of styles, I always try when possible to informally meet with my subjects before I photograph them. This gives me the chance to show them some of the various styles that are possible, connect with who my subjects are as a family and discover some of the themes and relationships we might plan their portraits around. Taking this time to get to know my subjects and plan everything before hand not only insures a successful portrait session but that the resultant portraits will be personally meaningful to those who will be receiving them.
